STANDING COMMITTEES

Standing Committees are appointed by the Town Supervisor and are populated by both elected officials and community members. These committees serve in an advisory capacity, offering recommendations that the Town Board takes under consideration when making decisions or resolutions. Standing Committees do not have voting authority.

BUDGET COMMITTEE

The Budget Committee serves in an advisory capacity to support the Town Board in the budget process. Its role is to provide recommendations that promote transparency, effective communication, and efficiency in financial planning. The committee works within a structured timeline to help ensure a more informed and organized decision-making process.

CHILDCARE COMMITTEE

The Childcare Committee is dedicated to expanding access to quality childcare in the community. The Town has allocated $30,000 in ARPA funds for childcare initiatives, which must be utilized by 2026. To ensure these funds are used effectively, the committee is collaborating with state, county, and local partners to assess local needs and explore viable solutions.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE

The Comprehensive Plan Committee has collaborated with the Town of Johnsburg Community Development Corporation (TOJ CDC), the Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board (LCLGRPB), and Warren County over the past two years to update the Town’s Comprehensive Plan. This plan serves as a guiding framework for the Town Board’s decisions on a wide range of topics over the next decade. To ensure robust community involvement, the TOJ CDC held three public workshops, one virtual session, and facilitated numerous stakeholder interviews conducted by the LCLGRPB. A presentation of the draft Comprehensive Plan will be made to the Town Board at 6 pm on March 18th prior to the regular board meeting. This is open to the public.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING COMMITTEE

In partnership with Chestertown and Horicon, the Economic Development & Marketing Committee secured $140,000 in Warren County Occupancy Tax funding for a tri-town marketing initiative. In 2025-2026, the committee’s marketing efforts will focus on this project, while its economic development work will support broader growth initiatives. With the Town Board set to vote on the Comprehensive Plan and the Town of Johnsburg recently designated a “Pro-Housing Community,” the committee is well-positioned to collaborate with the TOJ Community Development Corporation on NY Forward grants and other initiatives that support local businesses, drive economic growth, and strengthen the tourism economy.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

The Emergency Management Committee has been established to develop a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan. The committee will assess potential risks, coordinate resources, and establish response strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the event of emergencies. Through collaboration and planning, the committee aims to strengthen the town’s ability to effectively respond to and recover from disasters.

OCCUPANCY TAX COMMITTEE

The Occupancy Tax Committee advises the Town Board on the allocation of occupancy tax funds. The committee is responsible for holding a meeting for applicants at least two weeks before the application deadline in both the spring and fall, evaluating applications, and ensuring timely communication with applicants, the Town Administrative Clerk, and the Town Board.

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

The Personnel Committee is responsible for overseeing matters related to town employees, including policies, hiring, evaluations, and workplace issues. As needed, the Personnel Committee works with the Safety Officer.

SENIOR COMMITTEE

The newly formed Senior Committee aims to enhance coordination, cooperation, and community connections to improve access to resources for seniors. One of its first achievements is organizing the inaugural Senior Day (April 2025 – details to follow) and securing a $1,000 Kindling Award from the Adirondack Foundation in support of the event.

The Kindling Award is given to “community events in towns throughout the Adirondack region that bring a wide variety of people together to connect and build relationships.” The Foundation prioritizes initiatives that are “hosted by non-traditional groups that are community-driven and authentic, as well as successful at bringing isolated people together.” The Senior Committee is proud to be recognized for its efforts in fostering inclusivity and connection.

YOUTH COMMITTEE

The Town of Johnsburg Youth Committee (JYC) provides local youth with a broad range of recreational, educational, cultural, and social opportunities. Programs are financed through the Town of Johnsburg General Fund and private foundation grants. Current offerings include summer youth programs, winter ski lessons, as well as school-year activities and trips.
